How to install Valen on Forge or Lunar Client and start using it.

What you need

Minecraft 1.8.9 with Forge or Lunar Client, and your license key.

Forge

Download the Forge file from the download page.
Put valen-loader.jar in your Forge 1.8.9 mods folder. If an older Valen file is in there, delete it.
Start the game. When Valen asks for your license key, paste it in and click Activate.

Lunar Client

Download the Lunar file from the download page.
Make a folder called Valen on your C: drive and move the file into it. It should end up at C:\Valen\valen-lunar-agent-18.jar.
Open the Lunar launcher, select 1.8.9 and open its settings. Copy this line into the JVM Arguments box and save.

Launch 1.8.9. When Valen asks for your license key, paste it in and click Activate.

Leave the file in that folder. If you move or rename it, Lunar can't find it.

Your license key

Valen only asks for your key the first time you play on a PC. After that it remembers it.

If your key is rejected, Valen asks again. Check for typos and extra spaces.

Your key works on one PC at a time. Depending on your key, you can move it to a new PC a limited number of times each month. It moves by itself when you start the game on the new PC. If it won't move, email support@valen.cx.

To use a different key on the same PC, delete .valen_key.txt from your user folder (C:\Users\YourName) and start the game again.

Using the menu

Join a world and press Right Shift to open the menu.

Use the tabs on the left to switch between Combat, Movement, Utility, Render, Ambiance, GUI and Profiles.
Left-click a module to turn it on or off.
Right-click a module to see its settings. Press Escape to go back.
Press Ctrl+F to search.

Keybinds

Hover over a module, click the small box next to its switch, then press the key you want. Mouse buttons and the scroll wheel work too. Press Escape while it's waiting for a key to remove the bind.

Exact values

To set a slider to an exact number, click the number next to it, type the value and press Enter.

Saving your settings

Valen doesn't save your settings on its own. Save them to a profile, or they reset when you close the game.

Open the Profiles tab and click New profile.
Type a name and press Enter.

After that, click the save icon in the top right of the menu whenever you change something. It turns orange when you have unsaved changes.

Click a profile to switch to it. Valen saves the one you were using first.
Hover over a profile and click Set bind to switch to it with a key.
To share a profile, click its folder icon and send the file to a friend. Once they put it in their own profiles folder, it shows up in their list.

GUI tab

The GUI tab changes how the menu looks and which key opens it. Changes there save right away, so you don't need to press save.

Updates

Valen updates itself every time you start the game. You only need to download a new file if Valen tells you to. On Lunar, put the new file in C:\Valen in place of the old one.

Removing Valen

On Forge, delete valen-loader.jar from your mods folder. On Lunar, delete the line you added to JVM Arguments. Your profiles stay saved.

Troubleshooting

The menu won't open

You need to be in a world. Close chat and any other menu, then press Right Shift.

Lunar doesn't load Valen

Make sure you launched 1.8.9, the line is in the JVM Arguments box, and the file is at C:\Valen\valen-lunar-agent-18.jar.

Valen says the Lunar agent needs an update

Download the Lunar file again and put it in C:\Valen in place of the old one.

Valen says another loader is installed

Valen is set up twice. Use the Forge file or the Lunar file, not both.

My key is rejected

Check for typos and extra spaces. If your key has expired or is stuck on another PC, email support.
